The Gorgtech Secret Bat is the ultimate min-max blue weapon for foam fighting sports. This shouldn’t be your only foam weapon but it will be your favorite!
All Secret Bats are now Flat Bottom for Cross-Gaming and Back-weighted for Belegarth.

2023 UPDATE
Gorgtech LARP sporting equipment is made in America by real foam-fighters who love battle-games. Gorg made his first batch of foam swords for his team Atlantis to use at the Ancient Wharf Realm in Jacksonville, Florida. At that time, Florida was primarily Dagorhir and Amtgard. As the Gorg team played more Dag/Bel/Amt the goal was to design for Dagorhir while making provisions to cross-game in Belegarth and Amtgard. This is exactly why we stopped tapering the base of the Secret Bat in 2021. By having a flat bottom, the continuous 24″ of striking surfaces meets the requirements of Amtgard and allows for cross-gaming in Dag/Bel/Amt.
In 2023 further changes are being made. Gorg’s family, his team, and his home state have all switched to Belegarth as a primary game. The balance point requirements of Belegarth are different than Dagorhir. The 2024 secret bats still meet the Dagorhir rmin-weight requirement of 12oz. However, the counterweight design is changing to make the most of the Belegarth back-weighted provisions.
THE PURPOSE
We are very proud to introduce the secret bat brand new cutting-edge foam tech for full-force contact games. Used primarily in games requiring a min weight of 12 ounces, Dagorhir and Belegarth, but also perfectly balanced to meet the needs of non-min-weight games like Darkon. Comes standard with 24″ of solid padded striking surface to meet the further requirements of Amtgard.
THE COLOR
The secret bat cover is a nice gunmetal grey and due to its necessity to this build, there are currently no other color options available. The secret bat covers weigh 60% lighter than classic bat covers. They are available for reorder. #colorsareheavy
THE TOP OF THE LINE
Gorgtech secret bats are all handmade by us, each one meticulously balanced and tweaked to be the best bat you’ve ever felt in your hand! These are high-end weapons for the high-end fighter. For those wishing to be at the very top of the foam arms race, and they are balanced enough even the most competitive fighters will understand the work and tech that went into them being the best boffer bat on the market today.
THE STORY
This round bat (cylindrical striking surface) has taken our team a substantial amount of time to research and develop how to have a very durable foam design while incorporating a robust stabbing tip and the goal being a just above min weight weapon while lowering the perfect balance point to 1″ above the handle of the weapon in all 3 sizes 32″ 34″ and 36″.
To start with, we used the tried and true .524 kitespar for its durability and to save you on the cost of very high-end cores. We then replaced traditional rope wrap with a wooden handle dropping another couple ounces to drop the balance point even lower. We also have the bottom 2/3 of the foam striking surface made of a lighter weight foam as the majority of your hits will be in the durable top third of the striking surface, dropping the balance point even further.
Additionally, the tape used on the bat itself is 25% lighter than the traditional tape we use, again, dropping that balance even more. And lastly, but the most difficult to make happen was our gorgtech counterweights. We removed the traditional bolt and dropped the counterweight entirely below the user’s hand. Making everything about these 100% new and never before seen tech inside our games.

Although the balance point is in fact exactly as they stated (1″ above the handle), and it is probably the best balanced weapon I’ve held in years, it initially felt off. I like most fighters am a pommel fighter, and it felt like the sword was tip heavy. After just a short time fighting with it, I became accustomed to the feel of the weapon. Just one day of fighting with it, and so far I would say that this is a well designed and durable piece of equipment.

The sword itself is great, the cover is what makes it have that great feeling but it’s durability is too weak. The cover tore after 2 practices. I’m not ruff with my weapons and I was ensuring to take good care of it. When the cover was intact, it was the best sword I had ever had. In my opinion there is not a better omni option bang-for-buck on the market as of this review. I ordered this with a 3 in 1 round shield. I ordered this bat as whatever color is available as that was not crucial to me. I ordered the Shield Green as I wanted that color as the background for when I added my device. When I received the order (far faster than expected) I was very happily suprised to see the Bat was Green as well! Can’t say enough about Gorg for this one. Love the Bat too! It is light and versatile either by itself or as a down stick. Very happy customer!
